How it works

The national competition and qualification for the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) involves two qualification rounds and a summer camp: 1. Preliminary round, 2. Swiss final.

First Round: Online Exam

is conducted online and independently by each school. The examination lasts 30 minutes and consist of 30 to 40 English multiple-choice questions from all areas of geography.

Supervision during the preliminary round is organized by the schools themselves. Participants need an internet-capable device (i.e. desktop computer, tablet, smartphone) for this.

Summer Camp and Swiss Final

The best 20 students of the first online exam who meet the conditions for participation will be invited to a camp week and the Swiss final, where the best four students representing Switzerland at the iGeo2026 will be chosen.

Who can participate?

The qualification is open for pupils that:

•    are at least 15 years old but not older than 18 years on the 30th of June 2024 and
•    attend a school (not higher than secondary level) in Switzerland until the summer 2025 throughout the whole period from the preliminary round (May 2024) to the iGeo in August 2025
